2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Splitter"

Here is another great example of how putting in time to pattern a deer can really pay off!

Mike started to get pictures of this Nebraska buck the first week in July. At that point he figured the deer would end in the mid to upper 140's. Well August proved Mike wrong. Splitter exploded into a true giant.

Mike continued to get pictures and pattern the deer from his spotting scope.

On opening morning Mike slipped in to his stand 2 hours before daylight. Just before 7am, Splitter popped out into a corn field nearly 200 yards away and slowly started towards him. Mike came to full draw once Splitter stepped into his 60 yard window. The deer continued to 41 yards and that was it!

The Carbon Element and G5 Montecs ended this 3 month journey.

Splitter scored 170 5/8" and was aged at 5 1/2. Congratulations Mike!!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Ground Attack"

After not hunting this specific property for several years, Ed set out to check the field edges and get a better idea of where the bucks were feeding. A few hours in this buck stepped out 150 yards away.

The deer started to work his way slowly, he knew he would have to close the distance before it got dark. The cover was starting to thin and Ed knew it was now or never. Unable to range the deer, he guessed 20 yards. After a slow motion draw, he settled the pin and made a great shot!

Congratulations Ed on your first archery buck! He will be hard to top!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Kong"

When I look at this deer all I see is mass, mass and more mass. I wish I had room to share all the pictures!

Matt spotted this deer earlier in the season while on a youth hunt. He quickly named him "Kong".

On November 11th Matt set out on a spot and stalk. He got within 15 yards of the buck and made a great shot.

Congratulations Matt on a dandy Kansas buck!!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Iowa Vacation"

Talk about a Team effort!! Matt hauled his family all the way from Central Michigan to his hunting spot in Southern Iowa for a summer vacation. While they spent time at the pool, he was busy setting stands, seeking additional permission and scouting as much as possible.

After a night out with the kids trick-or-treating, Matt set out to Iowa alone. On the afternoon of November 1st he was finally in the stand. He hardly had time to cool off from the long walk in when he heard a stick break behind him. A doe was coming his way and a nice buck was right behind her.

Matt made a perfect double lung shot at 40 yards. The Mathews Helim and G5 broadheads did the job!

This main frame 10 has 13 total points and scored just over 171" gross. Congratulations Matt!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Rattle Rattle Rattle"

Nothing beats calling in a mature whitetail deer. It's a true accomplishment!

On October 8th, keith set up in a brush pile. He started with a short rattle. He had two bucks respond immediately and come into 60 yards. After a few minutes they worked their way off and out of sight.  A second rattle sequence brought the same result. The two bucks would not come into shooting range. After the third time hitting the horns Keith had three bucks come in, and this time to within 40 yards.

In his own words "I settled the pin and let her fly". Congratulations on a fine South Dakota whitetail!

The Hoyt Carbon Element and Muzzy combo made for a short tracking job.

Big Buck "Top 10" - "Early Rut Giant"

As deer hunters we often find ourselves chasing bucks we have never seen with our own eyes.

With plenty of trail camera pictures near last light Brian knew his target buck was in the area.

After three weeks of hunting this specific deer hard, he got his chance. On the morning of October 27th the buck came into 50 yards trailing a doe. He started thrashing on a tree and then followed the doe giving Brian a 15 yard shot!

The Pearson Stealth II and Wasp Boss broadheads did the job. His taxidermist said the buck should push 180".

Congratulations Brian, one heck of a deer!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Canada Mule Deer"

Another great spot and stalk mule deer hunt!

The hunter was able to sneak within 20 yards of this great buck.

The deer was shot in Saskatchewan Canada on September 29th. He measured just over 149" gross.

Another deer falls to the Elite Hunter and Shuttle T-Lok broadheads!
Congratulations to the hunter!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Firearm Bow Buck"

I love when a bow hunter gets it done during gun season!

On November 16th Chris set out with  bow in hand and his flame orange on! His first encounter of the day was with a nice 125" buck, he wasn't able to get a clear shot so he passed. Well that paid off!

At 8:50 a doe came strolling in. Chris noticed another deer with her and it was a nice buck. One grunt is all it took. The Bowtech Sentinel and wasp Jackhammers tipped him over 50 yards later!

The buck measured at just over 164" gross.

Congratulations Chris on your Missouri trophy!!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - Big WI 10"

If having a buck snort wheeze at you 10 feet from the base of your tree doesn't get you pumped up, what will?!

On October 28th, Roger had a awesome encounter with this huge 10 but couldn't get a shot he felt comfortable with given the branches and cover.

The next day, October 29th had a different outcome. A 12 yard shot with the Hoyt CRX 35 and Muzzy 100 grain put this 200lb Wisconsin buck down for the count.

Even with a broken G4 on the left side, the buck still grossed at 172"!

Congratulations Roger! Great Buck!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Split G2's"

I love whitetail bucks with matching split G2's! They are just awesome!

Cal had his sights set on this buck and had him on camera throughout the summer months consistently. As rifle season was quickly approaching and the hunting pressure began to rise he knew his chances were getting slim.

On November 5th just after 4pm he got his chance! The Diamond Black Ice and Slick Tricks did the job! Congratulations on a beautiful deer Cal!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Big 8"

There is something about 8 pointers that I am drawn to!

This buck was taken on October 6th with a New Breed Eclipse. A perfect shot made at 22 yards and a 30 yard recovery, can't beat that!

Congratulations Devin!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Public Land 190"

I will let the picture do the talking on this one.

This deers rough score was 194"! Taken on public land with a gun. Yes public land!

While I only hunt Whitetail with a bow, I can't help but take my hat off to the hunter on this one!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Bryce's Muley"

I feel like this hunt should have been filmed and I should have been able to watch it on TV!

Spot n stalk hunting can get intense. It can take you to the highest of the highs and the lowest of  lows. I am pretty sure Bryce was on cloud 9 after connecting with this Kansas Monster on November 18th.

He crawled on hands and knees and got as close as he could, settled in and made a perfect double lung shot.

If your first buck is any indication of what is in store for you, I'd say you have a pretty good outlook!

Yes, you read that correctly. This is Bryce's first bow kill!

Congratulations Bryce!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Wisconsin 14pt"

Like many hunters, Cary had a target buck for his 2012 season. With trail camera pictures proving the buck was nocturnal, he knew the Rut would be his best chance to take this deer.

On the morning of October 31st Cary spotted a buck in the distance tending a doe. For more than three hours they move closer, just a few feet at a time. At this point Cary realized if the two deer continued on their same path they would pass him at 60 yards away. Knowing he had a stand 15 yards closer to their trail he packed his gear and started to lower his bow. He suddenly looked up and caught movement, the buck had left the doe and was just 60 yards away heading his direction.  Cary slowly untied his bow, knocked an arrow and put a perfect shot on the deer!

With over 35 years of hunting under his belt this is Cary's best duck to date! The deer has 14 scorable points and measured just over 187".

Congratulations Cary! Thanks for the awesome story!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Iowa Public Land 170"

One of my favorite aspects of hunting deer is calling a buck in.

This buck was walking straight away up a ridge when Steve hit the grunt call just once, the buck spun a 180 and came into 8 yards! A move in his stand from the day before paid off!

The Mathews Z7 Mag  and G5 T3 broadheads dropped the buck in sight.

Nothing like a buck that grosses 170 6/8 inches taken on public land DIY!
Congratulations Steve!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - Kansas Stud

Nothing like Kansas in November! On November 6th just after 11am this guy gave Stephen a shot and he made it count.

This stud was taken with a Mathews Switchback and Rage broadheads.

The pictures just don't do this guy justice. He grossed at 169"!  Congratulations Stephen!

2012 Big Buck "Top 10" - "Halloween Redemption"

I wish I had more time to share this incredible story.

One of the hardest things to do as a bow hunter is to pick yourself up after a miss. Well Scott was able to find a way to get back out there and make it happen on this Iowa Giant!!!

Even with a break on the right side this deer grossed over 181"... Talk about some tines!

Congratulations Scott!! Incredible story! This one will be hard to top!
